Earlier this month, I drove down to Portland before the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning to attend a Foundations of Nutrition workshop. As I knew they would, Dallas and Melissa of Whole9Life put on an amazing seminar and I came away with pages of notes on good nutrition. It was so much more than “don’t eat this because the cavemen didn’t” and I loved it. During their talk, they mentioned that they’d be running their infamous Whole30 program one more time in 2011. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but fast forward to Saturday morning…
I woke up with a we bit of a hangover from the red wine we’d spent the previous evening guzzling at friends’ wedding reception. To help the hangover I had teriyaki chicken, orange juice, and a sugary holiday drink from Starbucks. Needless to say, by the afternoon I felt like crap. I decided then to jump on board and do my second Whole30. Sort of. This time I am hoping to finish it. Last time I made it to day 15 before I had something not allowed and day 26 before I had a drink.
This is the perfect way to reset my clock before the holidays, so I go into them knowing how great it feels to eat clean. It also will serve as an excellent starting point for getting in shape for the big day. 🙂 Wish me luck! Below is what Day One looked like. I recommend everyone make the Thai Yellow Curry Beef asap.
