Project Life: Finishing Up the Redo

Yay for being sick, I got time to convert my title page and weeks one and two to my new format. Ugh. Mostly said with sarcasm.

All I did for the title page was fix my cropped pictures now that I know how to correctly use PSE and add a background. As I started to create my book on Shutterfly, I noticed that the tan background looks really boring page in and page out, so I’m adding backgrounds. I don’t particularly love it because they look a little more scrapbooky now, but that’s better than boring I guess. Made all with the Clementine kit and a freebie for the welcome 2013. In fact, all the pages here were done with Clementine since it was the first one I bought.

Redone Week One – I added a background and updated most of the text to be one of three fonts. I was going a little font crazy before and it’s much easier and quicker to put together a week spread the more streamlined things are. I also changed the right side to be template A. Unless I have a really good reason not to, I’m only going to use template A going forward for both pages. Again with the streamlined -> quick and easy. I changed up the title, added the calendar, and added the week in review card. If I keep all three of those in every spread, it’s three cards that are already done… streamline…

Week Two – I LOVED the way I had fixed our Portland trip pictures, so I made an exception to using template A and having the calendar / week in review in their normal spots (plus this was already done so it really didn’t matter). I fixed the title card, added background / calendar / week in review, and updated the fonts. Oh, and added a picture of my nephew from that week because I can’t get enough of his smiling cheeks.

Project Life: Redone

I seem to work with people who love to come to the office sick and after December’s flu I’ve now come down with a terrible sore throat. What’s weird is that I really don’t have any other symptoms, but the sore throat is one of the worst I’ve had. Sigh. While working on my Project Life last night I finally came up with a format I really like. Which of course means I have to go back and redo the first four weeks. Luckily things clicked for me in week five! I redid the third and fourth weeks this morning while pouting that I can’t have any weekend fun. I’m desperately trying to feel better by tomorrow so we can still go forward with our planned Super Bowl party. I am both looking forward to have friends over AND I need something going on to document (I’m mostly joking with that last part). I hope your Saturday is a little more fun than mine!PL_2013_Week3A

The ABCs of 2013

I saw this idea on the Carrots ‘N’ Cake blog and thought it would be fun to do as well. It also helps that I can use it to procrastinate from cleaning the house while I wait for Greg to come home with dinner.

A – Alfred growing up. It’s sad that this has to be first, but I’m really excited for Alfred to go from puppy to dog and be just a little bit more calm.

B – Bar-B-Qs. Our new house has the most entertaining-friendly front yard and I can’t wait to use it once summer comes around.

C – CrossFit. I’m back and more obsessed than last year. The Open starts in March and I can’t wait!

D – Documenting. I am loving Project Life and trying to keep up with my One Line A Day book. I’m keeping it to a minimum this year.

E – Eastern Washington weekends. Summer can’t come fast enough and I’m excited to spend many weekends visiting Ken and Cathy and soaking up the sun.

F – Futbol! The Sounder’s season starts the first weekend of March and we are ready. We have six seats this year and it’s going to be a blast with the Kays and Tupling-Irvines.

G – Getaway. We didn’t do a winter getaway last year. We learned our lesson. We’re spending a long weekend in Phoenix in March.

H – Happy first anniversary. I think it’s so fun that Greg and I will get to celebrate our first anniversary this year… and hopefully somewhere fun!

I – Ice cream! Our friends Kevin and Anita gave us an ice cream maker for a wedding gift and I’m looking forward to try out some fun (coconut milk) flavors.

J – Journeying to South America. I have always, always wanted to go to South America and it seems like this might be the year. Not for sure yet, but I hope so!

K – Kitchen time. Besides the ice cream maker, we got many other kitchen gadgets and I’m looking forward to using them all and keeping up with cooking most of our food.

L – Little Smithski. It’s not every day (or even every year or decade) that your BFF has a baby; I’m co-hosting a fun shower in April and then meeting the little guy or gal in July. Yippee!

M – Martin Family Golf Tournament. I’ve missed it both years and I’m so hoping timing works out this year.

N – New York. Spring in New York visiting friends, a new baby, and my BIL. My life is good.

O – Offal. I’m going to eat offal this year. Ugh.

P – Pull-up. I’m going to do a pull-up this year. It’s going to happen.

Q – Quiet time. I’m loving that we are following through with ‘relax’ being our word of the year. We’re having lots of fun and have many plans in the works, but we also have low key nights at home that are much needed.

R – Reading. Four books down, how many more can I fit in this year? I hope my love for books never wanes.

S – San Francisco. Almost two years to the day from when I left I’ll be back for the wedding of good friends.

T – “Tacos”. When I first went Paleo I was obsessed with lettuce tacos. I sort of forgot about them, but now I’m remember how easy and awesome they are.

U – Update the office. The office is our favorite room and where we spend the most time together. It’s going to be the first room we work on in the house.

V – Volunteering. I’m hoping to find an organization to volunteer with, it’s been too long.

W – Weekenders with the Collins. It’s not secret we spend a lot of time and money visiting my family, and I’m very thankful we can. We already have two weekends on the books and I’m sure there will be more.

X – Xploring Washington. I hope we can get out more this year and see new parts of the state.

Y – Youngsters. Besides the four currently in my family, two new babies are being born to close friends this year. I’m loving getting to be around so many little ones these days!

Z – Zoom zoom. I’m still loving my little Mazda 3 and it’s coming up on it’s first birthday. I still find it totally enjoyable to drive to and from work in it. Maybe I’ll keep this one ten years, too, so my next new car feels as awesome!

Project Life: Week Four

Four weeks in and I’m still having a fun time working on this project. It’s much easier to put together the week’s pages when we had weekend guests visiting! My parents came for a quick visit to see our new house. They were without the littles, which I don’t think has happened since my 30th birthday, at least that I can remember. We had a very relaxing 28 or so hours with them. We visited the foundation’s visitor center, the Chihuly exhibit at the Seattle Center, and this morning our favorite restaurant for brunch (and Bloody Marys!). We spent Saturday night relaxing at our house playing Phase 10, getting Chinese take out, and keeping Alfred entertained.

I’m starting to work on putting the pages into a Shutterfly album so I don’t have to do all the work at the end of the year. It’s going to be hard to have to wait until the end of the year to see my finished project, but I think I’ll be a lot happier having the weeks bound in a book than printing them off weekly and storing them in page protectors in a binder (the more common way people do a digital project life).

Project Life: Week Three

It happened. We had a super boring week. It was pretty great until I went to do my project life pages for the week. I had to dig to come up with anything (un?)interesting. We are living up to our word of the year, relax, in a big way. The pictures are terrible and there’s not much story to tell, but I’m learning to be thankful for these weeks. I even managed to finish two books.

Project Life: Week Two

I had big plans to write about our Portland weekend, but this week was kind of crazy with work and starting CrossFit again. My Project Life sums up our trip pretty well – it was a cold, cold, cold weekend in Portland so bringing Alfred along turned out to be a bit of bad decision. It was still nice to get out of town and I got to do some tax-free birthday shopping.

Project Life 2013

As I mentioned, the only real goal I made for myself this year was to make a Project Life album. It seems like a good way to both document the year and keep having a reason to take pictures and improve my photography. There’s no way I could do a physical one (seriously, we’d probably get divorced over all the supplies I’d leave laying around every week), but then I read about digital Project Life. Here’s my title page. I’m pretty proud of myself, I’d never used Photo Shop Elements before today and I managed to put this together (with the help of the Project Life Clementine kit). It took me a few hours, so I’m going to have to work on “progress, not perfection”, I’ve got 52 weeks to go. PL_2013_Title_copy

On Resolutions…

IMG_1705

I opened up my 2013 life planner for the first time the other day and this was waiting for me on the first page. I had a million potential resolutions for the new year that all involved lots of documenting and measuring. But I think instead I’m going to try something new: less documenting, more living. I love goals and intentions, probably more so than the average person, but a set of random resolutions I put down on paper at the end of December isn’t really resonating with me this year. Especially when I look back at my 2012 goals and see how irrelevant they feel to my life right now. So no book quotas, set number of times I must go to the gym, or races planned months in advance. I think I’ll make some goals for each month and I plan to do a digital project life for the year to replace the Project 365, but that’s it. I feel like I’m getting soft in my old age, but maybe I’m just moving more towards normal?
