grilled pizza

i have three recipes left to meet my ten new BBQ recipes goal this summer. i decided to do something unusual for the last three. first up: grilled pizza. IMG_6442-1_edited-1i used this dough recipe, from elise’s blog. i had to add a little extra water to keep it from being too dry and crumbly.

i hadn’t planned to make my own pizza sauce, but safeway didn’t have fresh sauce like i was hoping to find. i used a very easy recipe i found, also on elise’s blog. IMG_6455-1_edited-1

four hours later, the dough is ready.IMG_6459-1_edited-1

dough, about halfway through the grilling process. i used these instructions for the grilling.

IMG_6463-1_edited-1final product. overall, it was pretty good. the dough needs to cook a little longer and the pizza sauce was a little runny. room for improvement means more pizza making in our future.

yes, i know you might not expect pizza from me. today was the first time in probably two years i bought flour at the store. greg asked when he got home if “this was some kind of gluten free pizza”. no, it isn’t. for a few reasons, i’m branching out from my paleo ways. perhaps i’ll get around to writing about it in the future.

Project Life: Week 30

Week 30 (July 22 – July 28)

IMG_6422_edited-2

And now we’re at week 30. Documenting these summer months has been and continues to be so much fun. It might seem silly that I’m taking so many very similar pictures, but there’s a method to the madness. It’s no secret I struggle through February to May living in the PNW. My hope is that next year when I’m having a hard time I’ll be able to look through all these weeks. I’ll remember that for a pretty decent chunk of the year there is nowhere better to live, that we eat so many meals outside, that it stays light out for 18 hours a day, that we walk everywhere, that we BBQ nonstop, and that the sun shines every day.

What happened this week: We had friends over for a BBQ and used our fire pit for the first time to make s’mores. We had new bedroom furniture delivered and after an epic trip to IKEA filled rooms with lamps and other accessories. And we got outside as much as possible. I had dinner with a good friend from San Francisco who was in town for work.

Out of the norm: I created a little insert of the three parks we visited this week. I cut the “Remember This” off of a journal card and stapled it to the insert to use as a tab.

Supplies used: Seafoam project life kit; the Today I and July calendar cards, We Were Here badge, and letter stickers are from the Studio Calico July kit; the See Go Do card is from an add-on kit to the July SC kit but looks like it’s no longer available.

I finally figured out the settings required to open the pictures larger and in a new tab. They should all be clickable now.

summer goal : fire & s’mores

we had the foremans and kays over for a bbq on friday night, the perfect start to a weekend.IMG_2914_edited-1the previous owners left wood in the fireplace and i was determined to have a least one fire this summer. greg did not disappoint and got an awesome fire going.

IMG_2915_edited-1

my extra credit goal (what, you don’t have those?) was to make s’mores.
IMG_2908_edited-1

cameron made himself not one but two s’mores. it was our first time having friends’ kids over to our house. apparently grapefruit pellegrino in a coffee mug is not a six year old’s idea of a soda treat. lesson learned.IMG_2910_edited-1

this city girl taught these country people how to roast marshmallows the LA way : on coat hangers. IMG_2913

summer perfection.

summer intentions

blog summer 2013I’ve been pretty terrible at monthly goals this year. I’ve mostly given up on them, but I do like the idea of being intentional with my time so I came up with a list of ten things I want to do this summer. I did the same thing last summer and I (or we) did almost all of them. And it was good times.

1. Use our ice cream machine to make coconut milk ice cream. Many flavors.

2. Finish the front yard and get it to a point where it’s just maintenance.

3. Stop wasting food (i.e. use all the food I buy & defrost). Keep summer cooking simple.

4. Try ten new BBQ recipes.

5. Get a fun family self picture. From the photo above, this will require lots of practice.

6. Make a fire in our front yard fire pit. Potentially make s’mores.

7. Walk fifty miles with Alfred (basically, get back in the habit of after work walks).

8. Hang art in the office.

9. Learn to give myself a decent pedicure.

10. Make pull-up progress.
